Daycare transportation can save a parent an hour a day, but only if the details are right. Before you sign up, ask who runs the vehicles, which schools are on a route, what the plan is for a late van, and whether it costs extra.

Who runs the vehicles?

Some centres use an outside service; others run their own vans. Ask which, and who your child will see at both ends of the ride. Nana's runs its own vans.
Which schools, and which days?
- ✓Is your child's school on a route?
- ✓What happens on early-release days?
- ✓Is there a ride on days school is closed but the centre is open?

Paperwork and permission

Expect a transportation authorization form. At Nana's it is part of the enrollment packet and must be completed before your child rides.
Running late and staying in touch
Ask who to call if the van is late, and how the centre tells you about a change. Save both numbers in your phone.

Prepare your child for the ride

Before the first ride, talk your child through it: who drives, where they sit, and who meets them at school. Practise buckling up in your own car. A calm first ride sets the tone for the rest.
Keep the details in one place
Keep them in your phone and on paper in your child's bag.
- ✓The centre's phone number.
- ✓The school's front office number.
- ✓The names of the adults allowed to pick up your child.

Cost
Ask whether transportation is included or charged separately. At Nana's, which schools and areas are covered, and any cost, are for a person to answer. See daycare with transportation in Glendale.
